Chris Herbert Nh Does It Again
Jot: to brand a quick short note of something | Periodical: a daily record of news and events of a personal nature
Jun 30: Ageism | I'g a competitive Squash histrion in the 55-60 masters category and a former Squash professional. I still play against players in their 20s and 30s and remain competitive and win many of the matches against them. A couple of weeks ago after playing a xxx something, and 1 of the peak players in my club, my opponent was asked in the change room who he played and whether the friction match was competitive. My opponent pointed to me and said that he had won 3 games to 2. The person'south response was: "that guy?". I gauge I didn't fit the mold, anymore, of what a adept squash player looks like. How ofttimes practice we await at people over 50 and write them off as too one-time to compete, also old to be relevant, too onetime to go seed funding for a startup? Or too one-time to hop on an electric skateboard?
Jun 26: How practise you define value? | Office 2:The 2nd value lens I look through has to do with potential, new and existing relationships with people and to a lesser extent organizations. There are iv levers of value, or upper-case letter, and they are time, economic, social and cultural. The key to building a potent network is understanding how these three levers can be used to develop mutually beneficial and successful relationships. Below is my Value Exchange Framework that visualizes this for you.
Jun 24: How practice you define value? | Part 1: I look at value through 2 lenses. The commencement applies to your venture and its business model. Essentially in order for your venture to exist successful value needs to be created, delivered and captured. A venture will not be a success if the business model doesn't do these iii things. If you cannot describe how you create, deliver and capture value then you have a problem. In 2018, as part of my TU20 Cup wrap up every bit a judge, I recorded this wrap upward video using the movie Star Wars to illustrate the create, evangelize and capture value scenario. HOLD It! Two things you should know: one) Information technology says congrats to 2017 TU20 cup teams. Nope, information technology's the 2018s. ii) This is a 6 minute video roofing more than defining value. Go to the 2:10 minute mark. I'll talk most the 2nd lens in my next post.
Jun 21: Superhero Simone | Amazing people are doing some amazing things around us and near u.s.a.! For those who know me I'm the biggest fan of local talent and astonishing people in Halton region, Ontario, Canada. This area is ripe with talent, ideas, drive and ambition. And, many of united states are thinking and acting big. Nosotros desire to make a big difference in a large way. The best way of doing that though is not on your own. Information technology's about lifting everyone up considering in today'southward complex, changing and unpredictable world no i person can make meaningful modify. Information technology takes a village of people that care and who act on it. Ane such amazing person is Simone Betito whose mom is a family friend. Simone uses data visualization to answer the question: Would dependable energy in healthcare facilities reduce maternal death rates in sub-Saharan Africa? The answer is yes and her enquiry and work (bank check it out) almost this trouble resulted in Simone winning The Un 2019 Human Development Information Visualization Challenge (more than about it). Simone is a superhero!
Jun 19: Tin VCs Calibration? | Do y'all retrieve that VCs need to exist disrupted? I ask this with good intent and deep appreciation for the void that VCs fill for startups… particularly in funding tech startups. But, there take been pressing problems that are non going abroad: 1) VCs can't fund enough startups. One fund I know tin can only fund six-8 deals per yr. They get over yard applications each year; ii) There is a "lack of deal menstruation". I wonder nigh that though. There are thousands of startups applying for startup majuscule every year in Canada lone. If only iii% of the chiliad applications to the VC firm higher up were quality deals they wouldn't be able to fund 20 two of them! iii) VCs schedules are crazy and getting a response, let lone getting on their calendars, is a challenge, specially if you're a first fourth dimension startup. I aggrandize a scrap on this in my Twitter thread.
Jun 17: Buy Apr's Book | I've only finished reading Apr Dunford'south book on positioning called: Obviously Crawly, How to Blast Product Positioning and then Customers Get It, Purchase It, Love Information technology. I will be re-reading it and applying it to my ventures and implementing information technology with our clients and members. Why is this book so of import for you to take? It'south simple, April understands and tells you how to Really position your product and company. She lays it out in simple english with real world examples (proof) and identifies the concrete components of positioning (at that place are five + a bonus) and the process in which you lot do it. Check out her Twitter thread on positioning. And then purchase the volume, you won't be disappointed!
Jun 13: Merchandise State of war | I'm wondering whether Canadians are following let alone have fabricated the time to understand the trade war between China and the U.s.a.. I've heard people say that Canada is experiencing collateral damage and that it'southward but a clash between the US and Chinese governments. NOPE! This is a class of values. What's the value of freedom, what's the value of doing honest business organisation, what's the value of our talent and intellectual property… and nigh chiefly what's the value of the human lives of people in China and demographic companies similar Canada. Don't have this lightly and this must be an election outcome. Check out my twitter thread to follow along. I'grand trying to stay objective.
Jun 12: Missing Gov't Link at IIoT Symposium | Totally immersed at McRock Upper-case letter's IIoT Symposium. My ventures Mi6 Bureau and Silicon Halton were sponsors again this year. Here's my live tweeting from the event which has lot'southward of insights and nuggets from the event. You'll find in my tweets that I "@" or mention the organizations and people who were presenting, on panels and winners of McRock'southward IIoT Awards. Ii key groups of orgs/people I'd like to run across at the 2020 IIoT Symposium are: ane) More SME industrial companies and, 2) representatives from relevant government funding programs including IRAP, SR&ED and the Supercluster programme.
Jun 11: IoT is Bigger than AI and 5G | On the railroad train heading to McRock Capital letter's annual IIoT Symposium in Montreal. IoT is the most important emerging engineering science of all in my stance and will be for years to come. More than blockchain, AI, 5G and cyber security as a technology category. Two key reasons for this: 1) Consumers and Companies tin see what IoT/IIoT is doing for them. Real and simple utilize cases exist. 2) IoT/IIoT as a solution includes AI, 5G and cybersecurity.
